ABOUT
The tallest sand dunes in North America — walk-only zones in the middle, ATV zones north and south.
A half-mile paved trail leads to the lower, middle, and upper viewing decks over the Oregon Dunes — the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America. Following trail posts in the sand, hikers can continue from the upper deck directly to the beach (about a mile) and loop back through open dunes, tree islands, coastal forest, and wetlands. The viewing decks are wheelchair accessible. Located 11 miles north of Reedsport on US 101; turn west at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area near milepost 200 and follow Oregon Dunes Overlook Drive 0.3 miles to the lot. Distance: 0.5 miles to the decks one way, or a 5.3-mile beach-and-dunes loop. Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Fee/pass required for parking; facilities at trailhead.
