Dunes and lake trails through coastal forest, 8 miles north of Reedsport.
The Tahkenitch Dunes and Threemile Lake trails begin as one, separating about 0.25 mile from the trailhead — hike either on its own or combine them into an extended loop. The north (right) fork visits Tahkenitch Dunes, passing through coastal forest with views of the dunes and ocean before descending through shore pine to the beach, where poles in the sand mark the route. The south (left) fork weaves through groves of giant Sitka spruce to quiet Threemile Lake, with a 0.3-mile spur continuing to the beach; you can connect the two trails by walking the beach. Located 8 miles north of Reedsport on US 101 at milepost 204. Distance: 2 miles to Tahkenitch Dunes, 3 miles to Threemile Lake, or 6.5 miles as a loop. Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult. Fee/pass required for parking; facilities at trailhead.
